A one month action-packed Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Immersion in the tropical paradise of Goa, India, leading to a Yoga Alliance 200-Hour Teaching Certificate. For pictures and information about the studio and the beautiful tropical beach region and surrounding area where the teacher training in India will be held, click here.

This yoga teacher training is identical to the training Richard gives every summer in the United States. The daily schedule includes: 3.25 hours of instruction in the practice and teaching of Iyengar Yoga Asana and Pranayama; and 2.75 hours of presentations and discussions on teaching methodology, student teaching, teaching beginners, yoga philosophy, anatomy, ethics, student/teacher relationship, business practices, and more.

The program is open to all who are sincere in wanting to learn the fundamentals of teaching Iyengar Yoga and are willing to put the necessary energy in keeping up with such a course. Those passing the various tests will be registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200- hour registry for teaching. Students who do not pass all the learning modules during the course will have one year in which to pass the online tests and earn the Yoga Alliance Certificate.

Please note: this course does not award an Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate, which has many requirements including years of devoted study and daily practice of Iyengar yoga, recommendations from two certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers, formal assessment of teaching and practitioner skills, and passing a written exam. There may be additional requirements which vary by country.

This training can be excellent preparation for Iyengar Yoga assessment for experienced Iyengar Yoga students and an extremely beneficial overview of the Iyengar Yoga system. This is the same training Richard gives in America over a two-year period or in a one-month course offered each July in Seattle, Washington.

The 200-hour training course outline will follow the information on the first two syllibi of the 2008 certification manual of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of the United States. These two syllibi contain the exact poses and Pranayamas in which students around the world must demonstrate teaching and practice proficiency in order to be certified Iyengar Yoga techers. The outline will also include readings from various parts on the yoga Sutras and other texts.

Registration: Students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. The fee for the course is $2,700 and is due no later than September 2, 2009. Application is not required. Registrations received after September 2 will be charged $3,200. Tuition includes the 6 hours of daily instruction with Richard and access to the various online or written tests. Tuition does not include yoga books, travel expenses and accomodations. The course will be held in the Palolem/Patnem regions of south Goa at Mokshanivas Yoga Center which has many of the basic Iyengar Yoga supplies.
