A one month action-packed Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Immersion
in the tropical paradise of Goa, India, leading to a Yoga Alliance
200-Hour Teaching Certificate.
This yoga teacher training is identical to the training Richard gives
every summer in the United States. The daily schedule includes: 3.25 hours of
instruction in the practice and teaching of Iyengar Yoga Asana and
Pranayama; and 2.75 hours of presentations and discussions on teaching
methodology, student teaching, teaching beginners, yoga philosophy, anatomy,
ethics, student/teacher relationship, business practices, and more.
The program is open to all who are sincere in wanting to learn the
fundamentals of teaching Iyengar Yoga and are willing to put the
necessary energy in keeping up with such a course. Those passing
the various tests will be registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200-
hour registry for teaching. Students who do not pass all the learning
modules during the course will have one year in which to pass the
online tests and earn the Yoga Alliance Certificate.
Please note: this course does not award an Iyengar Yoga
teaching certificate, which has many requirements including years of devoted
study and daily practice of Iyengar yoga, recommendations from two
certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers, formal assessment of teaching and
practitioner skills, and passing a written exam. There may be additional
requirements which vary by country.
This training can be excellent preparation for Iyengar Yoga assessment
for experienced Iyengar Yoga students and an extremely beneficial
overview of the Iyengar Yoga system. This is the same training Richard
gives in America over a two-year period or in a one-month course offered each
July in Seattle, Washington.
The 200-hour training course outline will follow the information on the
first two syllibi of the 2008 certification manual of the BKS Iyengar Yoga
Association of the United States. These two syllibi contain the exact poses
and Pranayamas in which students around the world must demonstrate teaching and
practice proficiency in order to be certified Iyengar Yoga techers. The outline
will also include readings from various parts on the yoga Sutras and other texts.
